Realty Reality

I reviewed my Realtor.ca search and realized that I hadn't put anything in it that would filter for properties with rental suites, so I added that criteria... and this immediately narrowed the results down to the same single property that I saw when I created a search profile on the site a month ago. I feel it important to use this moment to accept the reality that I may be looking in the wrong place for what I need because it obviously doesn't exist. The only house that matches my criteria is one that is trashed by fire and needs serious repair, yet is still listed at $240,000. I'm tempted to call this insane... but the reality is that I'm the insane one for looking for what I need in a place where it obviously doesn't exist. In April 2022 I made a similar comment on a property I found on Kijiji ... one that was a total garbage property in a garbage neighborhood listed for what used to be considered a "starter price" back when I was younger... meaning th...

Here's the first notification I got from Realtor.ca

-------- Forwarded Message -------- Subject: Here's the first notification I got from Realtor.ca Date: Thu, 23 Feb 2023 05:57:00 -0600 Gives a sense of the value people think things are. This one reminds me a bit of the $60K "starter house" listing I found in the core of the hood . This one is a <1000sqft that's not even finished renovations and and they want $240K for it. The description says "House requires renovation and repairs, or purchase as a future build site", which means they believe the land itself is worth that much (in Sutherland?) even with the cost of removing the house factored in. I'm very curious to understand if a listing like this is even serious at all or if they are just fishing for people with more money than brains? Curious property of the day

-------- Forwarded Message -------- Subject: Curious property of the day... Date: Mon, 11 Apr 2022 11:11:58 -0600 There's always something interesting in my kijiji property notifications. Today's is a house that is essentially just like buying a one bedroom apartment that is slightly larger than mine... but with a basement and yard to go along with it. It looks like it's in great shape... and where else in Saskatoon could a person buy their own house fo $150K nowadays? Reminds me of a house I bought decades ago... smaller than what builders are allowed to create by current construction standards, making such things the only way for some people to buy a house at all. How things have change... the one I bought was $60K... now a one room starter is 2.5x that.
