Ethics & Morality
I'm going back over a yoga reference I have in my library and realizing that it's not about yoga specifically, but about all "mindfulness" practices. It's a CBC Tapestry podcast, a series that I find a lot of very well thought out and useful stuff from, so I took this one quite seriously. In the introduction, it says "What was once a spiritual teaching about wisdom and compassion and reducing suffering in the world has been collapsed into a relaxation technique. The focus on ethics and morality is missing from a lot of forms of modern mindfulness." Revisiting this has shown me that it is about exactly the same thing that I focus on in all the conversations I enjoy having with people... the study of ethics and morality and how those things are missing from people's lives.
