Why It's Impossible To Manufacture In America

Image
I found an interesting and topical project that one of my favorite YouTubers did. It took him four years to complete it and the result was posted a few days ago. His channel is so popular that another YouTuber already created a commentary on it. Together these two videos work well together... the commentary one is a shorter analysis of the project and the original video is more like a more detailed but distilled video journal of it. The project was to experiment with whether it's possible to do what the current US government is trying to accomplish right now... to have an independant, self-sustaining domestic economy. According to this four year experiment, the answer is a clear no. That answer is likely to change the nature of the question... is that goal the right one to pursue at all? Video Summarizing Tool

Here is an example of the things that are now coming out from the world of AI. This is a free tool that will summarize the contents of a YouTube video and even include links to the summarized sections. This is great for research because YouTube already has a feature that automatically generates a text transcript that I can download, which means I can now read a summary of a long YouTube video and do word searches on the transcript. summarize.tech: AI-powered video summaries https://www.summarize.tech Here are two documents I just created in five minutes using this tool... Sean Carroll - The Particle at the End of the Universe

Summary of Sean Carroll - The Particle at the End of the Universe 00:00:00 - 00:55:00 In this video titled "The Particle at the End of the Universe", physicist Sean Carroll talks about the discovery of the Higgs boson, the significance of understanding fields over particles, and the complexities of building and operating the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). He explains the role that the Higgs field plays in the weak nuclear force and how it is responsible for particles acquiring mass, and highlights the potential of the LHC in discovering new particles and physics beyond the standard model. Carroll also discusses the issue of gender bias in physics, and emphasizes the importance of continuing research to understand the mysteries that lie beyond our everyday experiences. 00:00:00 significant. In this section, Sean Carroll talks about the discovery of the Higgs boson and why it was such a monumental event in the world of physics. He describes the excitement and emotional reaction...

Sociality

AI "Stop Button" Problem - Computerphile - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3TYT1QfdfsM This video started to mean something new for me today because I immediately realized upon a repeat viewing of it that the only reason this "problem" exists is because of the need for Sociality... to organize multiple individuals into cooperative systems as a survival response to evolutionary pressures. "Sociality is the degree to which individuals in a population associate in social groups and form cooperative societies. Sociality is a survival response to evolutionary pressures." - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sociality

Curiosity Cures Addiction

Curiosity Cures Addiction Instead of relying on willpower, the brain makes choices and forms behavior based on a built-in, primitive, reward-based system called reinforcement learning. Whenever the brain has a choice, it gravitates toward the more rewarding option. By intentionally bringing awareness and curiosity to any action, you upend the reward value of a habit, and in turn, change your response to it. https://www.inverse.com/mind- body/curiosity-awareness- behavior-change/ This can be tied in with: - TED talk about breaking bad habits by being more curious about them,   - A toddlers' natural expression of curiosity by asking "Why?" - The "AI Stop Button Problem" (pressing your own stop button becomes a way to hack your own reward system) - The idea of "doing things backwards" in order to slow down to override our brain's tendency to ignore detail to be efficient (ie. reading a paragraph backwards makes it easier to spellcheck it) - The use of...
