I reviewed my Realtor.ca search and realized that I hadn't put anything in it that would filter for properties with rental suites, so I added that criteria... and this immediately narrowed the results down to the same single property that I saw when I created a search profile on the site a month ago. I feel it important to use this moment to accept the reality that I may be looking in the wrong place for what I need because it obviously doesn't exist. The only house that matches my criteria is one that is trashed by fire and needs serious repair, yet is still listed at $240,000. I'm tempted to call this insane... but the reality is that I'm the insane one for looking for what I need in a place where it obviously doesn't exist. The title of this entry should say it all because it makes it immediately clear that the subject at hand is essentially "child exploitation"... but the fact is that when this subject is discussed there isn't that same kind of clarity happening and so people don't seem to realize the seriousness of what they are actually weighing in on. There are legitimate differences of opinion on this subject, which says a tremendous amount about society. Children should not be monetized. Period. Everyone already agrees on this. However, the truth is that it is not only happening, society regularly debates it using language that doesn't label it for what it is... child exploitation. An acquaintance recently said... "...it would be nice if people could coexist without hurting each other on purpose." I've been working on this topic for a very very long time. The conclusion I've come to after many years is that when humans hurt each other they don't know they're doing it in the kind of meaningful way that helps them do anything about it. This is difficult to accept because we're all walking around looking and acting like we are intelligent, but the reality is that we are very brutal to each other, and the mere idea of facing up to that is too painful to accept.
